This is a very special poem to me that I will never forget. This is the poem I proposed to Meagan with, I asked her out with a poem and I knew I would propose to her with a poem and I also wrote a poem for our wedding. I have made many jokes that I wanted to get married on a sky slope and Meagan of course would have no part in it (thankfully, I don't think I would have been happy with that as well) So since I couldn't marry her on a sky slope I decided to propose while skiing. The proposal went like this, we skied back and I grilled dinner and then by firelight I had her read the first page of the poem below and then when she turned the page for the rest it was blank and I asked her if she would like me to tell the rest. I had memorized the rest of the poem and quoted the rest doing what the poem was saying. Afterwords I had her write her reply and we both wrote the ending, all of which is below. So come with me, make a fairy tale tonight But on what subject you ask, Traveling? Knightship? The Ancient? Anything really it seems But for this particular tale I think a love story would be appropriate So now where to begin... Well, Once upon a time there was a boy He was for the most part a typical boy He worked, he played, and he enjoyed life For he had what most would call a complete life But the boy knew he was missing something He could not put his hand on it, that is Till one day a shining light came into his life A girl, shy, not fighting for the spotlight However unbeknown to her, she outshined the stars She was everything he had seen in his dreams and more They became friends, talked, laughed, enjoyed And then they loved. What the boy was missing he had found. What he could only dream about before he now lived They talked by day, and dreamed of each other by night Teasing, joking, discussing, and loving each other Days, weeks, and months became years. And then it was time. Time to commit to a lifetime together Time to put away their childhood and embrace a life together Finally the day came that the boy had dreamed about He had his girl with him, and they had enjoyed the day They had talked about tomorrow The boy trembling with excitement, stood in front of her He pulled a small box out of his right pocket, And from the box he removed a ring Then slowly he went down on his right knee, Will you marry me? He asked The girl, eyes sparkling with love, joy, and tears Replied...
So as every fairy tale should end, She said, "Yes," And they lived Happily ever after. |
