Of Books and People Why can’t people be more like books? You come across a disturbing passage And can simple skim on through, Or pass over it entirely. You can toss a novel in a corner, And later pick it up where you left off, Or purposely forget about it entirely. But people, People never let you forget. You cannot pass people over Like unwanted outdated paperbacks at a bargain sale. They use you, hound you, Clinging, questioning, demanding, Draining out your very soul. Like Fire eagerly licking at paper, They consume you, Until all that remains is Cold, blackened ashes. Author's Note: I found "The Little Page Turner" by Marilyn Alice Boyle at www.elfwood.com.
