Determination

I dig my fingernails into the hopes of tomorrow,
Determined not to let today’s worries and troubles
Discourage me and drag me down.
I will not be overcome.
I fix my eyes on the high mountains
And ignore the dark valleys
That I must first pass through.
Bracing myself against the harshness of the world,
And charging head-first into the icy wind,
I refuse to surrender;
I will succeed.
