Ode to My Keyboard Oh, white Keyboard, Covered from “Q” to “M” In smudged fingerprints Resulting from long hours online And thousands of emails, essays and poems. Never hast thou failed me Even when I spilled water down between thy gentle keys, (Except the time when thou switched The windows key with the shift button.) From time to time, Thou hast pulled a prank or two on me And convinced thy smooth, curved, sleek friend The Mouse To rebel against me And like a kamikaze pilot, Throw himself off the sliding wooden shelf While your stalwart keys Click about merrily, Roaring with silent laughter As I sigh and replace The Mouse. Oh, wonderful, faithful, ever-lastingly good Keyboard, I will forever vow to never again punch thy perfect keys When angered or bored. A note from the Keyboard: forgive this poor idiot who thinks she’s a poet. She is, after all, only human. (But she is right about the Mouse.)
