I used another one of Marcus' writing techniques in this poem. Marcus likes to use the same first word and context in three consecutive lines of a poem. Usually I write all my poems on the computer because its easier to edit them that way, but I wrote this one in school on a piece of scrap paper.
“I Love the Way You Love Me”
I love the way you seem so confident,
I love the way you’re not afraid,
I love the way you drive your car
With one hand so that you can hold mine with the other.
I love the way your eyes crinkle up
When you smile and laugh.
I love the way you just look at me,
Knowing that I can’t help but smile when you are near.
I love the jokes and stories you tell
I love the way you listen to mine.
I love the way you “ooh” and “ahh,”
And humor me in all my crazy ideas,
Even when it involves a swing with a very brittle
rope.
I love the way you are always willing
To help me with my homework and the computer,
I love the way you admire my drawings,
And encourage me to develop my talents.
I love the sweet things you say
And all the sweet things you do.
I love the poems that you write,
I love the emails that you send me.
I love the way you hold me tightly,
Making me feel so safe.
I love the way you are so patient.
I love the way you tell me I’m beautiful.
I love the way you gaze into my eyes,
And gently draw me close to you and kiss me.
I love the way you love me.
