I've Lived Other Lives
I've lived other lives
Than the one I'm leading now,
I've tread other paths
Than this one I walk upon,
Wearing someone else's shoes,
On these pale, callused feet.
I've been a captive 'board
A rolling pirate ship,
I've struggled through the potato blight
And worn hard, cold chains at an action,
Slashed through acres of jungle deep.
I've flown above the ocean
As a pondering, searching gull,
Rode across the open plains
On stallions tamed by mine own hand.
I've lead these lives and more,
Journeying through space and time,
From north to south,
And east to west
Through the worn white pages
Of library books.
