The Poet Inside of Me

Deep within me,
Resides a great poet
Longing to escape:
Perhaps another Shakespeare,
Emily Dickinson,
Or Dylan Thomas.

This great poet surfaces at the most inopportune moments,
In the shower,
At dinner,
At night when I only want to rest my weary mind.
It haunts me,
Driving, pleading, urging, begging,
For “Please, just one more, please?
’Twill be the last,
I promise!”

In the past, I would uselessly attempt to resist,
Longing for a moment’s peace,
But the Dreamer in me always prevails
So, shaking my head,
I give in and allow Creativity to run its rambling course.
