This poem is similar to "Edward" because it was written about the same event - Edward becoming a Christian - but this was written as a prayer to God, praising Him for this miracle and thanking Him for allowing me to be a part of Edward's conversion.

Thank You

I am filled with gladness and joy
In learning that my efforts were not in vain,
That my friend really was listening to my arguements.
And was not simply thinking of ways to refute them.

However,
I am filled with shame,
Because I gave up on him,
Drawing the conclusion that
He would not ever accept You,
Or at least, not by my influence.
I concluded that I would not be the one
To bring him to you, Father,
And I was right, because
You brought him to You,
By Your hand and influence alone.
You were the One who quietly, but steadily,
Worked on him, spoke to him,
Breaking and molding him
In ways unseen by the rest of us who prayed for him.

I rejoice that
Our efforts to convince him of the Truth were not fruitless.
I have learned that not all vines spring up overnight,
That some seeds, once planted,
Need watering and nutrients
For a much longer time than I would like
Before they blossom
Or show that they have taken root.

Thank you, Father,
For not giving up on him the way I did.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity
To share my faith.
My tears were worth it.
